200G & 400G speeds are a desired upgrade for any businesses’ network infrastructure

As 200G & 400G fiber optic configurations become a more normalized answer to rapidly expanding data demand, these technologies are available following chipset mass production, just in time for 2019 deployments, though many large data centers have strategized towards 200G as an intermediate step before jumping to 400G at a later date.

Other data centers, service providers, & enterprise organizations are waiting for a more mature stage in the life cycle of these technologies (and their prices) to move directly to 400G infrastructure upgrades in 2020.

Form factor options to fit any need

200G bandwidth hardware is available in QSFP56 and QSDP28-DD form factors, while 400G will be available on QSFP56-DD, OSFP, and CFP8. The 400G QSFP56-DD, also called QSFP-DD, is likely to be adopted as the primary form factor for access and intra-data center segments while CFP8 will be used for DCI (DataCenter Interconnect) intended installations.

With compatible pluggable form factors deployed for both platforms, moving from 200G to 400G with AddOn transceivers is a seamless experience. Whether your infrastructure upgrade plans call for a direct 400G deployment or stepping to 200G then 400G, AddOn is ready to help deliver your data at the speeds consumers demand.

PAM4 & gearbox technologies

Two key technologies are available in our fiber optic transceivers to enable such high speed, high bandwidth solutions as 400G—PAM4 & gearboxes. Pulse Amplitude Modulation 4 (PAM4) schemes enable 400G by empowering waveforms to carry two bits instead of one, improving bitrates, while gearboxes convert bitrates to carry more or less data lines per a pre-configured ratio.

In tandem with these advancements, AddOn is also enabling expansion towards 200G & 400G with three new form factors (QSFP56, QSFP-DD, & OSFP) heading to the market, we’ve ensured that AddOn transceivers are always built with the compatibility our clients need to tackle any infrastructure challenge.
